38 Years of Faithfulness: Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future
Day 1: You Are Not Who You Used to BeReading: 2 Corinthians 5:17 Devotional: The sermon opened with a powerful declaration: the rumors are true, mercy changes people. Scripture confirms that anyone in Christ is a new creation — the old has passed, the new has come. This is not a gradual improvement. It is a transformation. You may carry the memory of your past, but you are no longer defined by it. The people around you may still see your former condition, but God sees who you are becoming. Honor where you have been. Do not live there. Walk in the newness God has already declared over your life.
Reflection: What old identity are you still carrying that God has already replaced?
Application: Write down one label from your past that no longer belongs to you and replace it with a truth from Scripture.
Day 2: God Sees You in Your Condition
Reading: John 5:5-9 Devotional: The man at the pool of Bethesda had been sick for 38 years. Those around him had grown so accustomed to his condition that they no longer truly saw him. They saw his limitation. They saw his need. But Jesus saw him. Not his condition — him. Whatever you have been carrying, however long you have been in that place, Jesus has not overlooked you. He knows exactly where you are, how long you have been there, and what it will take to move you forward. You are not invisible to God. You are seen, known, and chosen.
Reflection: Have you allowed your condition to become your identity?
Application: Spend time in prayer today simply allowing God to see you — not your performance, not your problems, just you.
Day 3: Do You Want to Be Healed?Reading: John 5:6; Romans 12:2 Devotional: Jesus asked the man at the pool a question that seemed almost unnecessary: do you want to be healed? But Jesus was not questioning the man's discomfort. He was confronting his readiness for change. Healing requires transformation, and transformation requires releasing the familiar. Many of us have built our entire routines, relationships, and self-understanding around our limitations. When God offers healing, He is also asking whether we are willing to live differently once it arrives. Saying yes to healing means saying yes to change. That is not always comfortable, but it is always worth it.
Reflection: Is there an area of your life where you want relief but resist the change that healing would require?
Application: Identify one habit or mindset built around a limitation and ask God to replace it with something new.
Day 4: God Never Stops Working
Reading: Philippians 1:6; Isaiah 43:18-19 Devotional: Even when you cannot see it, God is working. Even when you cannot feel it, He has not stopped. Scripture declares that the One who began a good work in you will carry it through to completion. The sermon reminded us that 38 years of ministry was not built on human effort alone — it was sustained by a God who never stopped working on behalf of His people. That same God is working in your life right now. In the silence, in the waiting, in the uncertainty, He is present and He is active. Do not mistake stillness for absence.
Reflection: In what area of your life have you assumed God has gone quiet?
Application: Each morning this week, declare aloud: "Even when I do not see it, God is working on my behalf."
Day 5: Get Up — The Future Requires Your Yes
Reading: Psalm 124:1-5; Jeremiah 29:11 Devotional: The command Jesus gave the man was direct: get up, take up your bed, and walk. The bed that once carried him he was now commanded to carry. What used to be evidence of his limitation became evidence of his testimony. God is saying the same to you today. The things that once held you down are becoming your witness. The pain, the process, the wilderness — all of it is being transformed into a testimony that will reach people no one else can reach. God is not done with you or with this season. Your yes to the future honors everything He has already done.
